FFXIV: All hairstyles and how to get them

Time for a trim

Jandelaine in Final Fantasy XIV

If you’re looking to customize your character in Final Fantasy XIV, one of the easiest ways to stand out from the crowd is by getting a fresh new haircut. There are a lot of hairstyles available from the start, but also new ones which can be unlocked or purchased.

These new hairstyles come from a variety of sources, some of which are free, while others will cost you some Gil. If you’re in a hurry and not short on funds, you can purchase most of these on the Marketboard. They’re usually sold for a pretty high price, but if you’ve got some time, you can get them through other means instead.

How to change your hairstyle in Final Fantasy XIV

In order to unlock the ability to change your hair in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll need to do a couple things:

  • Reach level 15 with a Disciple of War or Magic class
  • Complete the level 15 MSQ quest “Call of the Sea”

Once you’ve done these, head to Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks and pick up the side quest “Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep”, which will unlock the Aesthetician, Jandelaine.

Each time you want to change your hair (or other things about your appearance, such as face paint or tattoos), you’ll need to interact with a Crystal Bell. These can be found in any of the Inn Rooms across Eorzea, or placed inside your own apartment or house. Changing your hairstyle will cost you 2,000 Gil each time.

To get your own Crystal Bell, you can either purchase one on the Marketboard or make your own. You’ll need to have Master Blacksmith III recipes unlocked and the recipe requires the following ingredients:

  • 1 Titanium Alloy Ingot
  • 1 Birch Lumber
  • 1 Wildfowl Feather
  • 2 Fire Clusters
  • 1 Earth Cluster

Most hairstyles appear the same on both male and female characters, although some have distinct differences and there are even some which are male or female specific. I’ll note those which have gender differences below.

  • The Final Fantasy XV collaboration event, A Nocturne for Heroes, will reward Lucian Locks when completed.
  • Taking part in a Ceremony of Eternal Bonding will reward the Eternal Bonding hairstyle. For females, this is a halo plait with flowers, while for males, this is a slick side parted hairstyle.
  • During community events, one of the prizes which is always up for grabs is the Strife hairstyle. This hairstyle cannot be worn by Viera or Hrothgar players.
