If you’ve attended or heard recordings of Symphonic Shades, Symphonic Fantasies, Symphonic Legends, or Symphonic Odysseys, then you’re already familiar with the work of producer Thomas Boecker and his team at Merregnon Studios. This group is responsible for some of the most incredible game music concerts in history, paying tribute to Chris Huelsbeck, Square Enix, Nintendo, and Nobuo Uematsu in the respective order of the concerts I named above.
The newly-announced Final Symphony celebrates Boecker’s ten years in the business by teaming up with Square Enix and Nobuo Umeatsu to treat fans to an entire concert dedicated to Final Fantasy VI, VII, and X. While the titles included seem kind of random, Boecker noted to us via e-mail that this selection is “the only chance to feature more music outside the usual suspects,” and I’d have to agree that each of these titles could use some more in-depth love.
Now for the bad news: the concert is scheduled to take place only in Germany on May 11, 2013. For those in Europe, it will definitely be worth the trip, and for those of us further away, hopefully they’ll announce other dates or provide a live stream of the concert as they’ve done in the past. And you can probably bet a recording will be released on CD.
