Konami made a lot of exciting announcements in their pre-E3 blitzkrieg, but there is some sad news as well. It seems that Frogger is coming to the Nintendo 3DS for another hoptastic journey. The now decrepit shell of its former self, Frogger disappeared from the gaming scene for thirteen years following the release of its first (and best) sequel, Frogger II: Threedeep!
Then, in 1997, Hasbro Interactive pulled the series swollen corpse out of the formaldehyde bath and performed some sort of Six Million Dollar Man crap on it. It’s been one depressing release after another nearly every year since.
And now Konami will try once again to break the cycle. The trailer gives some hope but I’ve been burned so many times before. Frogger 3D will offer 60 stages of single-player jumping with new enemies and allies, multiplayer battles and an endless mode based on the original Frogger street-crossing game. Best of luck to them but I’m still in favor of letting this amphibian fade into obscurity like Hamilton J. Frog before him.
