Bad news for new show

This October was to see European trade show Gamescom branch out into a new territory with the launch of Gamescom Asia. Unfortunately, organisers have been forced to postpone the inaugural event as a result of the ongoing COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic.

“As much as we would have loved to bring the event to life this October, the current global crisis has forced us to recalibrate our wants for Gamescom Asia,” said organiser Mathias Kuepper in a press statement. “The health and safety of our visitors, exhibitors and staff is paramount. Moreover, for an inaugural event, we felt it was important to give the regional gaming community and fans the full experience of what an international event of this scale would be like, and not anything less.”

Gamescom Asia is just one of many events that has cancelled plans in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Various video game trade shows including GDC, E3, SDCC, and the European Gamescom event have also been forced to take a backseat this year. While some are attempting to promote digital events in their stead, others are simply missing the year entirely, with plans to return in 2021.

Gamescom Asia is now expected to launch in Singapore on October 17, 2021.
