Investing $40 million in new stores
We know GameStop sells games and consoles as their bread and butter, but they want to get in on the tech game as well. They’re investing up to $40 million in stores that will sell tech hardware, like phones and tablets. Their investors call revealed that the retailer plans to add up to 400 stores in the next fiscal year between new stores and acquisitions.
“As we have gotten into the Apple relationship and the AT&T relationship, what we see is that those companies really need better and more sophisticated distribution that can present their products in appropriate ways,” said CEO Paul Raines. “There is a fragmented dealer base around the United States. We are a great way to go to market.”
I picture them doing those small mall stores, like the ones Best Buy has. Some phones and tablets, some top games, and some headphones. Makes sense.
