As Link prepares for his great battle against Ganon, he crosses paths with many Hyruleans needing help. This includes Loone, who is tracking various humongous fossils. One of the fossils she is interested in is Gerudo’s great skeleton found at the bottom left corner of the map.
This guide will show you how to complete the “Gerudo’s Colossal Fossil” side quest.
Where to Find Gerudo’s Great Skeleton
To unlock the Gerudo’s Great Skeleton quest, Link must first talk to Loone and help her find two other fossils. You get these by completing the quests Eldin’s Colossal Fossil and Hebra’s Colossal Fossil. The former is located in Eldin, and the latter is found in Hebra. The final one is found in Gerudo, and it’s the hardest to get to.
It is a wise idea to delay hunting it until the Gerudo Regional Phenomenon has been tackled. This is because the region is under a ceaseless sandstorm, making even basic navigation of the Gerudo Desert nearly impossible. Furthermore, there are drastic weather changes, which means Link needs to have a good variety of outfits available to deal with both cold and heat. If your wardrobe is lacking in climate-adaptive wear, you can also keep stuffing your face full of food that grants resistance to temperature. For cold weather, any recipe with added spicy peppers, warm darner dragonflies, sunshrooms, or warm safflina. For heat, you can cool down with recipes using hydromelons, chillfin trout, chillshrooms, or cool safflina.
Once the sandstorm has been dealt with, head to the following coordinates: -4808, -3876, 0003. This spot is southwest of the Lightning Temple, and Link can easily glide from there. The fossil is underground. To access it, enter the cave standing beside an empty tent.
How to Complete the Gerudo Colossal Fossil
Inside the cave, Loone has found a massive fossil of a leviathan. However, she also finds a smaller skull that she believes is a baby leviathan. She wants to see the rest of the baby’s body, so it’s up to Link to find the remaining pieces of the fossil.
The body is found inside the roof of the cave. Climb onto the large fossil, and look for a spot with breakable rocks on the roof. Once it has been located, destroy it with bomb flowers. After a few hits, the body of the baby leviathan will emerge.
The tail is on the ground, hidden in a pile of sand near the large fossil. Use a Zonai fan or a Korok leaf fused to a weapon to blow the sand away.
Once the tail and body have been retrieved, use Ultrahand to fuse them to the head. It may take a retry or two, as is it not obvious which way the body should face. The fossil should look like the image above. Once the task is complete, Loone rejoices! Link is given 50 Rupees for his efforts, which is somewhat disappointing.
Though the questline doesn’t yield much of a profit, there are plenty of ways to farm Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom. For example, taking down monster strongholds with the Monster-Control Crew yields 100 Rupees. Alternatively, feed luminous stones to Dondons to get diamonds later.
