A few weeks ago Activision announced that they were releasing a new Bond game, 007 Legends, this fall to coincide with the release of the new Bond film, Skyfall and Bond’s 50th anniversary. I totally missed the announcement as did Destructoid, which makes me a bad Bond fan and Destructoid bad at GAMES JOURNALISM or something. So consider this the official announcement here and also the post that informs you that you have a chance to be in the game.
If you want to know more about the game just read below, but if you’re just interested in getting your face in the game you can head over to 007Legends.com and put together your ideal Bond villain, with your own face, of course. Then on May 24 ten finalist will be chosen and the 007 Legends community will pick the best one and he or she will appear in the game. Most likely you’ll be one of the low-level lackeys that Bond dispatches with a headshot, but getting shot by Bond is better than not getting shot at all. Wait… that seems wrong.
As for the game itself, Activision has decided to not make 007 Legends based off of Skyfall, but instead have it combine six Bond films into one overarching story. The six films chosen haven’t been revealed yet, though one of them will be Skyfall. Using some logic we can figure out the other five pretty easy. Blofeld, Bond’s arch-nemesis, is rumored to be returning in Skyfall and it just so happens that he played a key role in five other Bond films for a grand total of six. If I was making an over-arching storyline to connect the Bond films I’d probably go with Blofeld as well. So the five most likely Bond films to show up along with Skyfall will be From Russia With Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever.
For those of you who don’t care about the Bond minutia and just want some details, the game is being developed by Eurocom who put together the quality GoldenEye relaunch on the Wii and GoldenEye Reloaded on PS3 and Xbox 360. It will feature many of the same features including a challenge mode and, of course, split screen co-op. No screens have been released, but one would assume that it will be an FPS as well.
