It soothes my retro heart to know that no matter how many shiny, high definition games get pumped out into today’s market, there will always be someone somewhere proudly pouring their heart and soul into something retro just for the love of it. For instance, take Ghost N Zombies, a brand new Colecovision game from homebrew dev AtomicFe in which you play as the father as Arthur from Ghosts n’ Goblins.
Here’s a bit of the story:
“Three years before Arthur defeated Astaroth in Ghost n Goblins, his father Sir Raphael, returning from a trip around the world, discovered a village [with] people crying the loss of their magical “Rose”. Listening only [to] his courage, Sir Raphael promised the villagers to fight Ghosts and Zombies, find the Rose, and get it back to the villagers. Thus the Quest for the Rose started.”
You can actually buy a hard copy of this game for $60, which will come on a 32K cartridge with box and manual. AtomicFe will only be making 25 copies (but he make create a second run if the demand is high enough). If you are interested, you can email him at coleco_gnz@atomicfe.com.What a total badass. This makes me realize that if I had any programming savvy, I could just write my own Shadowgate series instead of playing the first one over and over all the time.
