Golden Axe, Sega’s classic scrolling brawler from 1989, is to be immortalised on stage in the form a play, written and performed by Japanese collective Spiral Chariots.

The old-school arcade classic, which sees three heroes on a quest to defeat invading overlord Death Adder, will appear in the new production in abridged form, before skipping ahead to the events of Golden Axe III as Death Adder’s army rises once again, forcing Gilius Thunderhead and a new band of heroes into action.

This is the second video game-themed play by Spiral Chariots, who also produced a stage show on Rent-a-Hero at the start of 2018. Writer Seiji Hattori will also step into the armour as the mighty Death Adder. Golden Axe opens in Japan December 19 and you can check out the official poster in the gallery below.
