Sony Europe’s vice president quietly announces in interview
Gran Turismo 6 was nonchalantly announced as a current-gen PlayStation 3 game by Michael Denny, SCEE’s senior vice president, in an interview with Silicon Republic.
“Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3, like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6,” Denny said with confidence. He also mentioned a new Assassin’s Creed for PS3, before today’s reveal. Denny is a real rule breaker!
Considering the long development time on Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo titles and the history of having two per console generation, this isn’t actually that surprising. After all, wouldn’t Sony have showed it at the PS4 reveal if it were in the works for next-gen? Now, DriveClub will fill that void until GT7.
Though, it does seem puzzling to release such a high-profile PS3 game while trying to sell a new console that won’t play PS3 discs. With The Last of Us and Beyond around the corner, some of us are going to have to face the reality of two big black boxes next to each other in our media center, for some time to come.
