Gravity be damned: Just Cause 2 details surface

Avalanche Studios is bringing Rico Rodriguez back for more gravity-defying action with a sequel to its free-roaming third-person shooter, Just Cause. In an interview with CVG, Just Cause 2‘s lead designer Peter Johansson talks about what we can expect from the game:

We identified the key areas we wanted to improve for Just Cause 2. We wanted to make better use of our huge game world, enhance the stunts, improve the combat and reward exploration more.”

One of the biggest draws to Just Cause was the setting, and wouldn’t you know it, Just Cause 2 is going to take place on a tropical island — except this time around it’s located in South East Asia. And because you can’t have a game like Just Cause and not include an evil dictator somewhere in the plot, players will have a new enemy in their sights: “Baby Panay.” How utterly ridiculous.

While I never ended up purchasing the original Just Cause (the demo was enough, thanks), I’m going to go out on a limb and say that side-missions weren’t one of the game’s strongest points. What makes me say that? For starters, Johansson had this to say about the sequel: “the side-missions are out. You’ll begin the game with nothing but your Cuban heels and a winning smile.”

Sounds good to me. Just Cause 2 has only been announced for PlayStation 3 at this point, but I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if it makes its way to Xbox 360 and PC as well.
