Coming to PC and Switch this December
Devolver Digital’s starting the week in style. Devolver just revealed the newest title in its lineup — Gris, which is the first game by developer Nomada Studio.
Despite the rough-sounding name (“gris” makes my brain auto-correct to grisly and gristle), this seems like a stunning work of visual art. The watercolor aesthetic is the obvious initial draw, which lends itself to a sense of intrigue about the mysteries this world holds. Gris is an exploration-based game with light platforming and puzzle-solving, and there aren’t any dangers or fail states.
Plot intricacies are kept under lock and key for now. All we know about Gris is from the description that Devolver sent out: “Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality. As the story unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.”
Gris is currently set to release in December 2018 on PC and Switch. However, we should have some more detailed impressions in a few weeks’ time, as Gris will be playable at PAX West.
