Halo 5’s multiplayer won’t be a democracy

We’ve written recently about some changes in Halo 5: Guardians that fans will have to get used to. Another of those has surfaced. 343 Industries will be in complete control of what maps get played in multiplayer.

Josh  Holmes, Halo 5‘s executive producer, answered a question on Twitter regarding the game’s map selection system. “No voting or veto, just straight rotation,” Holmes said.

Some past Halo titles have given players the option of picking from a small selection of maps or straight-out overruling a map. Halo 5 will strip this democratic feature in favor of the developer curating the experience.

While player choice is generally a good thing, this rigid system might be a blessing in disguise. Shortly after a game’s released, communities tend to constantly lean toward the same maps while neglecting other ones. This ensures that all content will be played equally and keeps gameplay varied to some degree.
