REQ packs payin’ off
The best of the best Halo 5 players face off against each other in March 2016 at the Halo World Championship. Getting there is a long and arduous process though, and the road starts on December 6. That’s when ladder play begins and the contenders separate themselves from the pretenders.
Microsoft and 343 Industries have nailed down the schedule for the Halo World Championships. It goes like this: Online ladders begin on December 6. From December 19 to January 31, online qualifiers and regional in-person live events take place. January 23 to February 21 sees the regional finals across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia/Australia/New Zealand. Finally, the big event starting on March 1 with the Halo World Championship preliminaries, and ending on March 20 with the finals.
As of right now, the purse for all that Halo playin’ sits at $1.7 million, with $700,000 of that coming from the community. Like other eSports, a portion of the proceeds from Halo‘s in-game purchasables (REQ packs in this instance) go toward the prize pool for the best teams. There’s still plenty of time for that number to grow, too. It’s not quite Dota levels of staggering, but it’s a very nice chunk of change nonetheless.
