Thanks to a recent agreement between EA and Hasbro, some of those games that had family members yelling at each other across the dining room table each night (at least in my household) will be making a comeback.
Both EA and Hasbro hope that 2008 will be the year that classic games such as Monopoly, Scrabble and Yahtzee revive that tradition — albeit in an updated fashion. The games are planned to be available on consoles, PCs, handhelds, as well as mobile phones. As Kathy Vrabeck, EA’s president of Casual Entertainment labs said, this partnership is all about capturing the spirit of those family get-togethers most of us remember from our youth:
“These are games that we all love and remember from our childhoods. Together EA and Hasbro can create the next generation of fun for a new wave of kids and families.”
While this sounds like a great idea, I have to ponder: Does anyone even play these games anymore?
