Super Earth just can’t catch a break nowadays. As Helldivers 2‘s Operation Swift Disassembly rapidly moves from one theatre of war to the next, so too do we uncover more of the Automatons’ plot to liberate Cyberstan. The latest news suggests one horrific development: flying Automaton dropships.
Indeed, Helldiver forces have been remarkably successful in severing some key Automaton supply lines to get more information about what’s going on behind the scenes. Yet, things may be about to heat up like never before, as we’ve received updates that there’s a “new Automaton type” being developed on the sly: aerial gunships. If this doesn’t ring a bell or two, might we point out that something delightfully similar happened with the Terminid, too, as bug flyers began spawning in ever-greater numbers following the Termicide deployment operations.
Whatever the case may be, Helldivers appear to be on a crash course with something that could challenge Super Earth’s aerial superiority in the low atmosphere.
Flying Automatons are coming to Helldivers 2
The community is, of course, already reeling from this development, but it’s not all grim tidings just yet. Very recently, Super Earth issued two compelling new Stratagem support choices via the Arsenal Expansion Notice: the LAS-99 Quasar Cannon and the MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun. Whereas the MG-101 is currently somewhat held back by its extreme fire rate and questionable spare ammo capacity, the Quasar is a delightfully efficient weapon that will easily deal with anything and everything thrown its way. Automaton Dropships, in particular, are easy pickings for the Quasar, and the weapon is bound to prove useful against the heavily armed Automaton Gunships, too.
It gets better, though: Joel recently began dishing out armored personnel carriers to random Helldiver fireteams, allowing them to move across Automaton terrain with relative ease. It’s not impossible that the APC might be getting officially surprise-released the same way the two aforementioned heavy armaments have been, which could allow Helldivers at large to more easily deal with flying Automaton forces.
According to Super Earth, the production of the military’s “most effective anti-air weaponry” has been accelerated, so more goodies should be on the way sooner rather than later. Odds are good that the first proper appearance of Automaton Gunships isn’t that far out, either.
