Arc’s back on the menu!

Today’s Helldivers 2 Patch 1.000.104 provides a handful of fixes for arc weaponry but doesn’t quite deliver what all players wanted in terms of stability.

It’s no secret that Helldivers 2 has more than a few bugs. After the last patch, it felt as though Arrowhead Game Studios had fixed a few issues but added many more that caused complete crashes. The game has been pretty unstable, making for a very trying experience for some who played over the weekend. Unfortunately, there don’t appear to be any fixes for these issues this week, but at least arc weapons are working properly again.

There really isn’t much to cover in terms of the full patch notes for Helldivers 2 Patch 1.000.104. They’re not a particularly thrilling read because, in my opinion, they’re pretty bare-bones. The overview says it all, “Fixes to the arc-based weapons.” But if you want to get into the nitty gritty, the Arc Thrower, Arc Shotgun, and Arc Tower will now no longer cause the game to freeze.

Of course, this is great news for players who want to pull out every arc weapon they have and kill every Automaton they can before the enemy enacts The Reclamation. It’s fantastic that the game has fewer interactions that will outright freeze it, but it’s still not in a completely stable state.

For example, user Tazooka on Reddit explained, “My game has been crashing a lot since 1.000.103 even without using Tesla weapons. Hopefully this is addressed and fixed soon too (nothing even mentioned, like the grenade crashes in known issues area).”

To cut Arrowhead Game Studios some slack, the developer has been prioritizing the mental and physical health of its staff over pushing out patches or overloading them with work since the release of Helldivers 2. This has no doubt slowed the process of providing fixes somewhat, and clearly, it deemed these arc issues either easier or more important to fix first. Nobody wants to force staff to overwork, but it would be nice to know what’s being worked on next so we can get an idea of when the game will be a little more stable.

What I will say is that these arc fixes couldn’t have come at a better time, which is likely why they have arrived this week. We successfully smashed our last Major Order to clear up a few planets and haven’t caused any more procreation permit limitations. Now, we’re fighting the Automatons again before they perform a massive push towards Super Earth. Arc weapons seem to be more efficient against this enemy, so this should be a doddle, providing everyone invests in the Cutting Edge Warbond.
