Spreading Managed Democracy throughout the galaxy is your sworn duty as a Helldiver. But what of those who choose to defy such a righteous calling? Getting labeled a ‘Traitor’ to Super Earth is possible in Helldivers 2, and the end result shouldn’t be surprising.
To be labeled a traitor in Helldivers 2, you need to run outside the mission boundary of a map. You may have already noticed the warning. As soon as you reach the invisible boundary line, a message appears: “RETURN TO THE COMBAT ZONE.” You have ten seconds to comply. What happens next?
Here’s what we do to a traitor in Helldivers 2
The day you go traitor in Helldivers 2 is the day your citizenship gets revoked. Permanently. The Democracy Officer aboard your ship pipes in, saying there is “but one sentence commensurate to the crime of treason.” Your vision blurs, and the words “TRAITOR DETECTED” appear on your screen.
Moments later, your own Destroyer ship begins an orbital strike right on your location. It doesn’t take long before one shot finally turns you into a meat patty.
As you should know, each Helldiver you play as is a different person. So after the traitorous scum is transformed into a red mist, another Helldiver is sent in to replace them. And they’re safe, so long as they don’t go AWOL like the diver we no longer speak of.
What can you do as a traitor?
Typically, becoming a traitor in Helldivers 2 is meant to be the final stop before getting blown apart in the name of freedom. But you can use the orbital attack to your advantage. Strap yourself with armor that decreases explosion damage, and take a Shield Generator Pack Stratagem with you. With luck and some fancy footwork, you can use the barrage as a kind of free Stratagem and traipse through a crowd of surprised bugs.
I wouldn’t exactly consider it a Helldivers 2 lifehack, and your allies will not be happy, but using the “Traitor barrage” is a think-outside-the-box way to destroy enemy bases without burning a Stratagem. Please don’t do it in my game.
