As a Helldiver, your duty is to take out enemies in the name of Democracy. But there is more you can do. Instead of focusing only on the offense, you can bring a Supply Pack to help others in Helldivers 2 and drop items for them to use — here’s how.
How to use the Supply Pack in Helldivers 2
To use a Supply Pack and resupply while on the field, you need to purchase and equip the Supply Pack Stratagem in Helldivers 2. You unlock it in the Ship Management system under the ‘Stratagems’ tab in the ‘Engineering Bay’ section. It’s available at level 2, and you can purchase it for a mere 4,000 Requisition Slips. You can find the Supply Pack Stratagem in between the Anti-Personnel Minefield and Grenade Launcher Stratagems in the Engineering Bay section.
Using the Supply Pack is rather easy. After calling it down, strap it onto your back. Keep in mind that you can only equip one backpack at a time. To resupply others, walk behind an ally low on ammo and tap the E key on a keyboard or X on the PlayStation 5 controller (or the A button on an Xbox controller) when the ‘Give Refill’ prompt appears.
To resupply yourself in Helldivers 2, tap the 5 key on a keyboard or down on the D-Pad. There are only four refills with the Supply Pack, so you better make them count. You can call down a new pack after a 480-second cooldown. But what if you want to drop the empty pack, or just about anything else?
How to open your inventory and drop items in Helldivers 2
To drop items in Helldivers 2, you first need to access your inventory. On a controller, it’s the same key press required to use the Supply Pack backpack. This time, though, you need to press and hold the down button on the D-Pad for a couple of seconds. A radial wheel appears, allowing you to drop items you have in your inventory. You can drop your backpack, Support Weapon, and (very shared) samples on the ground. For PC users, hold down the X key.
This way, you can share a backpack item with others, or let them use your Support Weapon for a while. You can also give others your samples but, remember, they are shared with the group. Please stop shooting me.
Why you should resupply your teammates in Helldivers 2
The “backpack function” of Helldivers 2 allows you to do things like equip a Supply Pack to resupply yourself and others, as well as drop items from your inventory. Doing either action requires the use of specific buttons or keybinds, and learning both is important.
Why? Well, because people need ammo. And there are too many stories out there of divers getting shot for “accidentally” taking a weapon or sample dropped from fallen allies. Samples are shared, by the way. If someone takes your Support Weapon by accident, there is a better option than to blast them.
