Helldivers 2 Warbonds explained

Not the most obvious of things.

As one of Sony’s premiere games-as-a-service, it’s a bit of a given that Helldivers 2 would come with its own integrated battle pass/season pass of sorts. That’s where the game’s Premium Warbond feature comes into the picture, but it’s not all too obvious how to purchase it!

Notably, even though you can purchase separate customization options in Helldivers 2 (and they’re cheaper than the industry standard), the game’s main progression feature is its Warbond. Both the baseline and the Premium Warbond come positively loaded with weapons, cosmetics, and Super Credits (the premium currency), to the point where you won’t be hard-pressed to interact with additional purchases if you don’t want to do so.

If, however, you’d like to open up an even greater array of goodies than the game initially allows for, the Premium Warbond is for you, and there are some quirks about it that you’ll want to keep in mind.

Helldivers 2’s Premium Warbond explained

Now, there’s no way for you to purchase the Premium Warbond directly, either in or out of Helldivers 2 proper. Instead, the option to buy it only opens up after you’ve got enough Super Credits in your inventory: 1,000 of them in total, to be exact, which is equivalent to about $10 or your regional equivalent. You can, of course, collect enough Super Credits simply by playing the game: you can find Helldivers 2‘s premium currency while playing the game, and though it’ll take a while, you can purchase the Premium Warbond without spending a dime.

Whatever the case may be after you’ve got 1,000 Super Credits, open the game’s Requisition menu and scroll down to the ‘Steeled Veterans’ Premium Warbond banner. It should be accessible directly from the first Requisition UI. At that point, check the lower right corner of the screen: the option to purchase the Premium Warbond will pop up there, allowing you to unlock Helldivers 2‘s first battle pass.

Helldivers 2: Steeled Veterans Premium Warbond shouldn’t be leaving the game anytime soon

Something that’s very important to note about Helldivers 2‘s Warbonds is that they appear to be permanent additions to the game’s content roster. Players will be able to access previous Warbonds even after new ones are released, which essentially eliminates the FOMO that’s usually the default in modern games-as-a-service. On a different note, the currently available Steeled Veterans gear isn’t great compared to the baselines. All of this Warbond’s featured guns are snazzed-up versions of basic weapons with the ability to stun smaller foes, and with a slight tweak to dish out explosive damage.

Instead of unlocking Steeled Veterans weapons first, the community currently recommends opening up the basic Warbond as much as possible, as it comes with genuinely useful tools and weapons. From the looks of it, the Premium option is purely a good source of cosmetics at this time, though the developer may buff Steeled Veterans gear further down the line.
