It’s been a long time coming.

Now that the procreation permits are safe and sound, Helldivers 2 players may have thought that Super Earth would have a bit of a breather before the next big problem. Not so! The Automaton push for Cyberstan from a few weeks ago is now back on track, it would seem.

After the Helldivers first got the idea that Automatons might not be gunning for Super Earth after all, it wasn’t immediately obvious what the bots’ next step might be. In the interim, players have figured out how Helldivers 2‘s supply lines work, as well as mainly focusing on dealing with the encroaching Terminid threat, which ended up growing wings along the way. With that resounding success out of the way, Super Earth can focus on Automatons once again, and the latest Major Order is a part of the larger Swift Disassembly Operation, which sprung about after the reveal of the Automatons’ ongoing ‘Reclamation’ project.

Helldivers 2’s Operation Swift Disassembly takes on Automaton forces

Given all of the information outlined above and the Automatons pivot towards Cyberstan, it’s not hard to imagine what this Reclamation might actually be. To thwart the Reclamation, the first step of Operation Swift Disassembly is for Helldiver forces to capture and liberate Troost. The catch with liberating Troost is aptly explained in ol_one_eye’s delightful PowerPoint presentation: Helldivers 2 players first need to liberate Ustotu and Vandalon IV.

This means that Helldivers now have a whole campaign’s worth of liberation ahead of them just to verify what the Automatons’ plans are, and the latest intel suggests that this will be no mean feat. According to the in-game announcement of Operation Swift Disassembly, the Reclamation is a “massive [Automaton] invasion of unprecedented scale,” and Super Earth now wishes to “eradicate the Automatons entirely.”

A plan that will, surely, not lead to a flying Automaton.

It’s still early days of Operation Swift Disassembly, of course, and much is still unknown. Helldivers 2‘s live campaign means that the game’s narrative is continuously evolving and changing depending on what the players themselves do, so there’s no telling how the Automatons might respond to Helldiver forces trying to stifle them this early on. It’s a good bet, though, that the Reclamation will proceed at least for a little while longer, as it seems every bit as important as the Termicide campaign from the weeks prior.

If Super Earth intel is correct that Automatons are getting ready to mount an onslaught of unprecedented levels, though, we may need Joel to drop in a few more APCs to keep the war going. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that Illuminate assassins may or may not be prowling the battlefields all stealth-like. It’s a great time to be on the side of Super Earth, isn’t it?
