Unless you are in it
A few days ago, Steven used his words to describe the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta. That’s fun because we live in an age where videos take so much precedence over the written word. Still, writing about Gears has a sort of ridiculous allure to it, like Steven describing the many ways you can “knife execution the shit out of (someone).” Or, me explaining how just shooting someone isn’t actually violent.
It’s an absurdity that is conveyed by video, but isn’t emphasized by video. Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition recently released this clip to explain how everything in the now-happening multiplayer beta works. People pop and explode all over the screen, but the video stays committed to its straight-faced seriousness. Writing isn’t as to the point, but it more accurately gets the point. But, for the video-inclined, here you go.
The playing-inclined aren’t as fortunate right now. While the beta officially started yesterday, The Coalition took to the game’s forums to say that code distribution isn’t going as originally planned. People who should have their codes by now don’t yet have them. To adjust for this, Microsoft is releasing a higher number today to get as many in as possible.
Despite its problems, everyone should eventually get enough of the Gears beta. A closed early access period runs from April 18 through April 24. Then, it opens up to everyone through April 25 through May 1. That’s plenty of time to knife execution the shit out of a lot of unsuspecting folks.
