Here’s what to expect from Dead Space Ignition

Visceral is going in a new direction with their Dead Space expanded universe with Dead Space Ignition. This interactive comic prequel is set just before Dead Space 2 and is presented as a choose your own adventure story. Your decisions will lead you down one of four paths and the endings for each path will unlock special items — such as a suit for Isaac — in the upcoming game.

The story in Ignition follows an engineer named Franco. He’s busy fixing equipment when he’s called to fix a malfunctioning heavy door. Franco, along with his flirty lady friend, arrive to fix the issue only to discover the controls for the door may have been sabotaged.

Once the scene is over, the player will engage in a mini-game called Trace Route to fix the door. The player is in control of a red electrical signal and has to race against the computer in order to reach the system core. There are objects scattered on the track that will slow you down but you have power-ups you can use to mess up the AI.

Basically, it’s like Art Style: Light Trax, except replace the techno music with extremely overdramatic music. The other two mini-games revealed (but not shown) in Ignition were Hardware Crack (a puzzle game where you have to align lasers) and System Override (tower defense type game).

So yeah, this is a thing. Is it a good thing? I’m still not really all that sure. I’d bite for $5 but anything more than that would pretty ridiculous for a motion comic with three mini-games.
