Hidden ‘Totaka’s Song’ discovered in Mario Kart 8

You sly dog

Composer Kazumi Totaka has been hiding this tune in Nintendo games for over two decades now. While some of us will best recognize “Totaka’s Song” from Mario Paint, it has turned up in titles like Link’s Awakening, Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, Wii Sports, and many others.

Turns out it’s in Mario Kart 8, too, because of course it is. As explained by YouTube user Somewhat Awesome Games, the Yoshis on the sidelines of tracks such as Yoshi’s Valley will hum the song at random. Is it really that simple? Well, yes, but the audio is suuuper faint.

Be sure to disable the stage music if you want to hear the secret in-person.
