Micro Machines are better
Mattel and Milestone have announced that we’re getting the follow-up we’ve all been waiting for: Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. Better yet, we’ve got a trailer and a release date set for October 19, 2023.
A CG trailer? For a racing game? Why even do that? We understand the concept of cars and driving.
Oh well, at least they provided a press kit. Let’s check out these screenshots.
That’s not anything. That’s a car. What did I just say?
I really enjoyed Hot Wheels Unleashed when I reviewed it back in 2021. I didn’t expect a sequel so soon, so I’m glad I don’t have to wait long to get my hands on it. Even though the trailer and screenshots show us nothing, they do seem to demonstrate some concepts the new game will go for.
To start with, there will be bikes. There also seems to be a sort of mid-air jump mechanic. It looks like there’s going to be off-roading, as well. My favorite part of any toy car game is driving through a big world, so I’m actually liking what I’m seeing. I guess I’ll have to wait to see if the actual gameplay reflects this.
We do know that the track editor is back, there will be over 130 cars to unlock and choose from, and the main campaign will be story-driven. Sounds weird. I’m in.
We don’t have to wait too long, as Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is set to launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch October 19, 2023.
