How long does it take to restore HP in Monster Hunter Now?

An hour a day keeps the Potions away

In Monster Hunter Now, HP will become your biggest limiter on your playtime. Sure, starting out, you’ll easily slay monsters with First-Aid items to spare. However, if you progress into 4-star encounters and beyond without upgrading your armor, you’ll quickly find yourself getting knocked out in one or two hits. And when you’re all out of healing items, the only free way to heal is by waiting for your HP to regenerate naturally.

Fortunately, you can naturally restore your HP pretty fast in Monster Hunter Now. It takes about an hour to fully heal, at a rate of healing 1 HP roughly ever 35-36 seconds. Do note that, with the Health Bonus perk active, you will heal at a faster rate proportional to your increased health. However, if you remove the Health Bonus perk, your current HP will proportionally drop as well.

Similarly, you’ll always need 30% of your HP to challenge large monsters. In other words, if you were just knocked out by a monster, you need to wait at least 18 minutes to challenge it again.

When should you use Potions to restore HP in Monster Hunter Now?

Of course, if you really need to heal and you’re all out of First-Aid items, you technically can use Potions. However, I’d advise against using Potions outside of emergencies. You’ll only get a few Potions starting out, and acquiring more costs approximately $2.99 for a set of five. If you keep fighting hard monsters and chugging potions, you’ll spend way more money than you need to.

Monsters are only going to get harder, and eventually you won’t even be able to defeat them if you haven’t sufficiently upgraded your gear. Instead, try to fight monsters you can comfortably take down to earn the upgrade materials you need. Additionally, save your daily First-Aid items to overcome harder monsters. If you have six or more First-Aid items in your inventory, don’t claim your daily five First-Aids until you have five or less (or the day is about to roll over). This will ensure you have more healing on hand every day.

Gauge which monsters you really want to fight, and only use HP restoration items if you can’t afford to wait. Save both your health and wallet!
