As someone who has finished Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, I shall not lie to you, Tarnished. This DLC definitely presents the toughest challenge that FromSoftware has ever given us. Between chunky bosses with aggressive attack patterns, hard-hitting normal enemies, and a steep toughness scaling, it’s not for the faint-hearted. Still, the developers are not cruel; they have granted us the blessed Scadutree to help us out.
How many Scadutree Blessings are there?
There are a total of 20 Scadutree Blessings levels that you can get in Elden Ring. Each level of the blessing will make things just a little bit easier, allowing you to take and deliver more damage. To level up, you will need to collect Scadutree Fragments and then visit a Site of Grace.
The way the math works is that the DLC treats a character with no Scadutree Blessings as the base, then slowly scales the damage that you do up and the damage that you take down as the Blessing level changes. With one blessing level, you do roughly 10% more damage and take roughly 10% less damage, but at level 20, you do roughly twice as much damage and you take roughly half the damage that you did at base level.
From what I can tell, this will always be calculated from the base damage level, never buffed level, no matter the source of those other buffs, so keep that in mind. However, I do need to do more testing to figure out the exact formula that is used.
There are a total of 50 Scadutree Fragments that you can find in the DLC, and you can collect them across the New Game+ runs if you don’t find them all. You can never go beyond 20 Levels, however. The level jumps require the following number of Fragments.
Level 1 | 1 Scadutree Fragment |
Levlel 2 to 9 | 2 Scadutree Fragments each |
Level 10 to 20 | 3 Scadutree Fragments each |
The only downside to the Scadutree Blessing levels is that they only apply in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, they will not change how enemy and damage scaling works in the base game, so keep that in mind.
If you are really struggling in the DLC, you should find your life easier if you invest some time in tracking down all the Scadutree Fragments in the Gravesite Plains, as they will help you immensely in the early game.
In-game description: A splinter of the Scadutree that contains golden brilliance. Acquired at the Church of Marika and other places in the realm of shadow. Consume these at sites of grace to bolster your Scadutree Blessing. The Scadutree Blessing bolsters the bearer’s ability to deal and negate damage but has no influence outside the realm of shadow. It is said that when the Scadutree crumbles from its core that it will scatter across the entire realm of shadow. The people of the Erdtree collect the splinters and use them in prayer.
