During Link’s adventures throughout Hyrule, he will come across several horses that he can mount, tame, and bond with. Having a good horse comes highly recommended, as Hyrule is far too vast to explore entirely on foot.
To get the most out of horses, it is essential to understand how stables work in Tears of the Kingdom. Though stables haven’t changed too much since Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom introduces Pony Points, which provide even more reasons to interact with stables.
How Do Stables Work in Tears of the Kingdom?
Link can mount various animals found throughout Hyrule if he sneaks up on them. Horses make for the best animal mounts because they can be trained to respond to Link’s whistles. After you tame your desired horse, you’ll want to store it in a stable. These are found throughout Hyrule, and Link can do several things there, including registering his horses and transferring horses from Breath of the Wild.
It costs 20 Rupees to register a horse. Afterwards, you can retrieve your mount from any stable. Furthermore, you may name horses here, which adds a lot of sentimental value to them.
Visiting stables allows horse owners to view the stats of all their steeds. Registering horses is also an easy way to accumulate Pony Points.
Stables aren’t just for horses. Our hero can rest at the stable inn for 20 Rupees to fill up all his hearts. The Malanya bed is also available, and it leaves Link more energized upon awakening, though this costs seven Pony Points.
How Do Pony Points Work in Tears of the Kingdom?
In Tears of the Kingdom, stables hand out Pony Points to exchange for rewards. Link will receive a Pony Points Card upon visiting his first stable. Following this, he will gain Pony Points every time he interacts with a stable e.g. registering a horse, or sleeping at a stable inn.
You may claim rewards by visiting the Pony Points ledger counter found inside the stables. All the rewards are horse-themed, but they are all worth unlocking, including the ability to house more mounts and restyle a horse’s mane. Pony Points are not essential to the main quests, which might be good news for Tears of the Kingdom beginners who want to keep things simple. However, for those who value their horses, Pony Points are a great addition to the stables, and the rewards aren’t too pricey. By simply playing the game normally and taking care of mounts, you’ll accumulate Pony Points quickly.
