There’s nothing quite like shopping in a Like a Dragon game. Weapons? We got ’em. Might as well pick up a rice ball and pocket tissues. The Akame Shop also has such goods, but how can you access it in Like a Dragon Gaiden?
For as short as Like a Dragon Gaiden is, its second chapter sure is densely packed. This is when Kiryu makes his way to Sotenbori and meets the effervescent Akame, squares up in a Coliseum brawl (or several), and saves some homeless folk from greedy yakuza dregs, among many other things.
Early on, however, is when Akame introduces you to the Akame Network. It’s a service that takes requests from the citizens of the city, which you can take on at your leisure. Completing jobs earns you cash and Akame Points, the latter of which can be spent on upgrades and, later, a shop.
When do you access the Akame Shop in Like a Dragon Gaiden?
You gain access to the Akame Shop in Like a Dragon after unlocking it in the Investment tab. But before you gain access to said tab, you must complete a few steps. First, you need to finish a task for Akame that involves saving some homeless people who are getting scammed by some miserable Yakuza. This unlocks the ‘Stroll n’ Patrol’ missions, requests you can take from citizens out in the city. Once that’s done, Akame will introduce you to the Investment tab, which appears underneath the ‘Support Map’ tab in the network menu.
The first investment you can purchase is the Akame Shop, which unlocks for 15,000 yen. It lets you exchange Akame Points for goodies such as disguises, armor, health items, plates, and more.
How do you upgrade the Akame Shop?
It’s called an “investment” for a reason. To upgrade the Akame Shop, return later and check the Investment tab to see if you can unlock the next tier. It’ll cost more money, but it’s certainly worth it. Soon enough, you’ll be able to trade in points for even better healing items, gambling cheat tools, and Pocket Racer parts.
There are four levels of the Akame Shop to unlock. It’s a good idea to increase the tier as soon as you have the cash. Some of the items are not just rare and useful, but a couple are tied into side quests you’ll uncover during the game. If you checked every store for an item and can’t find it, you should check and see if you need to upgrade the shop. Where else can you get Straw Sandals and toy tires in one place?
