Fly, you fools – no, literally fly, not fly in the way Tolkien meant
After completing the puzzles inside the Wind Temple in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll take on that temple’s guardian boss: Colgera. Here’s how to beat it, and why it’s a breeze.
You’ll find the Colgera boss in the Wind Temple
High in the sky inside the Wind Temple, you’ll be battling Colgera.
This isĀ likely the first temple you’ll be taking on: which is excellent, as Colgera is one of the most straightforward encounters of the lot, and great for players who don’t have a lot of upgrades or abilities.
How to beat Colgera
The “slow-motion” aerial bow aim mechanic returns in Tears of the Kingdom, which you can use to your advantage since you’re going to be in the air 100% of the fight.
Colgera’s weak points are staggering and gigantic and look like circular “hearts” of sorts with a purple tint. Simply line up a shot with any “heart” that’s active (holding ZR), and let it rip. You’ll need multiple arrow shots to “break” the glass, then continue to aim using the same slow-motion timing and fire off another arrow. Colgera will take a ton of damage, and fly off. Rinse and repeat.
The biggest thing to keep in mind when fighting Colgera is the Rito Champion gust ability: triggered by pressing A in the air. If you need to gain ground or dodge an attack, have the gust available for that purpose. Save your charges for when you really need them. Colgera is a very passive boss, so one of the few ways it can take you out is attrition, if you’re getting hit by constant errant shots and strikes.
Stay vigilant and focus on the hearts: gaining the high ground or coming in from below are great ways to avoid the path of the Colgera while having access to its weak points.
Once Colgera hits half-health, it’ll enter phase two.
It’ll get a little more aggressive, but its tactics won’t change that much. Similarly, you should play more aggressively and aim for its heart before it gets the chance to deal any damage. Swift arrow shots will ensure that it’s taken down before it can actually deal any damage.
Your reward for beating Colgera
Like most core bosses in theĀ Zelda series, you’ll earn a Heart Container for finishing off Colgera. Collect it after the fight, then interact with the podium to unlock the Rito Champion ability.
