How to beat the Helicoprion in Dave the Diver

And yes, it’s based on a real animal.

The Helicoprion is a story boss in Dave the Diver. You’ll be able to control both Dave and Suwam during this fight, but Suwam’s mechanic is entirely optional. Here’s how to defeat the Helicoprion boss in Dave the Diver!

Basically just a big shark

For the most part, you can deal with the Helicoprion like any other shark, albeit one with a circular saw built into its mouth. Its attack patterns are similar to other sharks that wind up and rush toward you. Dodge its attacks by swimming out of the way when you see it starting to charge, then take some shots with your weapon or harpoon whenever you have an opening.

There will be some resources scattered around the edges of the map. These include oxygen, ammo, and a weapon crate. Be careful when gathering these, since the Helicoprion can sometimes trap you from above.

Use Suwam to stun the Helicoprion

The unique part of this fight is that you get to control Suwam along with Dave. Suwam will bravely flee at the beginning of the fight and hide on a platform at the top of the arena. Use the arrow keys to move Suwam toward one of the Divine Tree Fruits at each side of the platform. Interact with a Fruit by pressing C, and it’ll emit a bright flash of light that will stun the Helicoprion. This will give you a window to get a few free shots in. The Helicoprion has to be quite close to the Fruit to be stunned though, so you’ll have to lure it into position with Dave.

This mechanic is entirely optional. You can absolutely beat the Helicoprion by simply kiting it and shooting at it like other sharks.

Profit

Be sure to harvest the Helicoprion’s meat before heading out. Like with other bosses, its meat can be used to cook an expensive dish and earn you some good money. You can also pick up its sawblade, which can be used to craft a strong sniper rifle.

Trivia: The helicoprion in the game appears to be based on an outdated interpretation of fossilized remains. The tooth whorl in a real helicoprion was probably set further into its mouth and used to pull animals out of their shells. That’s not as cool as a free-spinning circular saw built into its mouth though, so I think I prefer the game version.
