How to change maps between Paldea and Kitakami

It’s super easy to do once you actually get to Kitakami

In the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask DLC, you’re going to be venturing out into new lands: most notably the vast landscape of Kitakami. Here’s how to swap between the old Paldea map and the new DLC world of Kitakami.

How to unlock the new Kitakami map in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Your first step to unlocking the new map is actually setting foot in Kitakami.

You can do that by loading up your game with the DLC installed (make sure it’s the correct version before you buy it!), and talking to Briar at the Academy. We have a full walkthrough of that process here: but suffice it to say it’s super simple, and just involves getting a phone call (much like a Fallout game) and heading back to the key/capital area to go on your new premium adventure.

You’ll take a cute school trip to Kitakami, and it only takes several minutes to transition to a point where you can freely walk around and open menus.

How to swap between Paldea and DLC maps in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

After Briar stops talking, you can access the new (and old) map. All you need to do is open your map screen (Y), swap between the Paldea and Kitakami maps with the L or R button, and select any fast travel point between them to travel there. You’re literally going to be swapping between individual maps, so keep that in mind: this isn’t a fully open DLC world.
