Once you’ve reached the city of Baldur’s Gate, you might start hearing about some less-than-stellar service from one of its couriers. Well, finding these missing letters in Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t just lead to some experience, but a nice little reunion for one of your party members.
After entering the Rivington area, you can head over to the Sword Coast Couriers, where Postmaster Danzo is posted up, worried about his mail deliveries. Apparently, someone or something has been intercepting his pigeons. Some of his mail hasn’t made it to the right recipients, and he could use an intrepid adventurer’s help.
Now, two things will make this quest go smooth. First up: bring Gale in. If you’ve got him back at camp, tag him into the party. Secondly, have some method for speaking with animals. Whether that’s a latent talent, a potion, or a spell, animal speech will make this quest both easy and entertaining.
Finding a lead
Danzo is not exactly the most helpful person, when it comes to discovering where the pigeons might have gone. You could do some boots-on-the-ground investigation, but why bother? Go straight to the source. Flip on that animal speech switch and head upstairs to chat with the pigeons themselves.
A particularly boisterous one named Commander Lightfeather. Buy into his vibes, addressing him properly, and you’ll get some more specific info out of him.
All of the pigeons are apparently avoiding the roof of the next building over. As it so happens, this is the Open Hand Temple, which you might already be investigating for another side quest or two.
Head across the street and up the knotted vines nearby to reach the roof. Here is where you’ll want both your animal speech and Gale, as the latter is about to have a very special reunion.
Where to Find the Missing Letters in Baldur’s Gate 3
Perched on top of the temple you’ll find Tara, Gale’s tressym that he might have told you about at camp. The two will have an adorable reunion and catch up with each other.
During this conversation, you can ask Tara to stop feasting on the courier pigeons. The tressym will oblige, and also let you pick up the letters scattered about.
Pick up the letters and take them back. You’re supposed to return them unopened. But if you’ve got a decently Charismatic character with proficiencies in Deception or Persuasion, you can open and read them to learn about Danzo’s fumble with the Zhentarim. He’ll pay a hefty sum extra for your silence, which can easily finance your trip across the bridge nearby.
After returning the missing letters, that’s all for this Baldur’s Gate 3 quest. A nice, happy little journey for gold, and a surprise reunion.
