The ‘Meal and a Memory’ side quest in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is geared as a fantastic way to ease you into hunting down ingredients for food or crafting. Your goal is to locate key ingredients for a meal, and they can’t be low in quality.
The Meal and a Memory side quest is given to you in Avatar: FoP by Sa’nop, who’s chilling northeast of the Hometree at The High Loom Na’vi Camp. He asks you to find ingredients for a meal. In exchange, he’ll share with you a story. The ingredients you need to find are the Shell Fruit and Crimson Mushroom, and they both must be at least Superior quality.
Meal and a Memory quest completion requires some gathering knowledge in Avatar: FoP
To find the location of the ingredients, open up the menu and navigate to the ‘Hunter’s Guide’.
Open up the Shell Fruit entry and check the info to learn where to find it. The Shell Fruit is found commonly in the Rainforest biome of the Kinglor Forest. But we’re interested in the rarer variant. It can be discovered in the Thorny Wilds biome, and the best quality is found when it’s raining.
Next, open the map and check the biomes by pressing the button required — either the A button, X button, or C key on your keyboard. The Rainforest biome is all around the camp, but we want to go to the Thorny Wilds, shown on the map as a pinkish biome. There are two locations close to the camp: Directly north or to the west.
The best quality variant of the Crimson Mushroom, on the other hand, can be found at night and in the Swamp Lowlands biome which sports a yellowish color on the map. You’ll find it directly northeast or west of the camp.
How to change the time and weather to get the best quality materials
The Crimson Mushroom should be your first stop, as it’s closest, but first, you need to change the time of day to Night. You can change the time of day by using a Resting Spot, a.k.a. a fire at a campsite. Use the one at The High Loom and then head to the swamp northeast. The mushroom can be found on “large roots and great vines,” according to the Hunter’s Guide. Look for the roots and vines poking out of the water around the swamp to find the mushroom.
Quick hint:
- Be sure to pin ingredients you need to the UI by highlighting them in the Hunter’s Guide and tap the X or square button on your controller or the F key on your keyboard
- Pinned ingredients will be marked by yellow borders while using your Na’vi focus ability
- Oftentimes, the highlighted ingredient can be seen through objects such as rocks or trees, making it easier to track them down
- Remove the pins when you no longer need to find the ingredients
If it’s not raining, head back to The High Loom camp and use the Resting Spot until it starts to pour. The weather can either be ‘Rain’ or ‘Thunderstorm’; so long as water falls from the sky, it counts! Either way, the best quality Shell Fruit is found when it’s raining.
Head north-northwest until you reach the Thorny Wilds Biome. According to the Hunter’s Guide, the fruit is on a “creeping vine which grows on far larger trees.” Look for large trees and use your Na’vi senses to spot the fruit.
With both ingredients in the bag, fast travel back to The High Loom and use the cooking station next to Sa’nop. You need to add the ingredients correctly, or else the recipe won’t work. The instructions ask you to use the shell fruit as the main ingredient. At the station, add the fruit and then the mushroom.
Cook the ingredients together to create a ‘Mushroom & Fruit Salad’.
Your final task? It’s time to taste your concoction. Either eat the item after cooking it or open up your food wheel and snarf it down. Once you do, return to Sa’nop, who’ll tell you a story. Once that’s done, you’re rewarded with Sa’nop’s Bracelet Armguard Mod and two Clan Favor.
