Failsafe has been handing out new quests each week in Destiny 2 as we slowly but surely progress along the Episode Echoes storyline. One of the more traditional quests the AI is doling out is the Specimen ID series, which is a good excuse to play the Episode‘s activity.
You unlock Specimen ID: NES001 as soon as you start the Episode‘s story, requiring you to extract planetary data. Specimen ID: NES002 has you completing activities on Nessus, which is a nice change of pace and gave me a good reason to go back and chat with Failsafe more. Specimen ID: NES003 is different yet again, but a glitch in the game caused some players to be unable to access it at first.
How to unlock Specimen ID: NES003 in Destiny 2
To start Specimen ID: NES003 in Destiny 2, you need to wait until week 5 of the Episode Echoes seasonal challenges have unlocked. While the quest appears in a seasonal challenge for week 4, Bungie has confirmed on Twitter that this is an error.
The quest was always planned to go live in week 5, but for some reason, the seasonal challenge is part of week 4. This is an error, but it’s not one you can fix by yourself. You’ve just got to wait.
In the meantime, it’s worth completing Specimen ID: NES001 and 002 so you’re up to date with this series. Failsafe is handing out quests around A Rising Chorus, and I believe they’re all going to come to a head as an important part of the story.
You don’t want to hit a point where the story is progressing, but you’re locked out of it by these quests. I’ve had this before when I’ve had to take a couple of weeks off from Destiny 2, and it feels incredibly stressful trying to play catch up. While many of us have issues with this time-gated progression system in the game, it’s what we’ve got, so it’s better to play and live with it than let everything stack up on top of us.
How to complete Specimen ID: NES003 in Destiny 2
At the time of writing, week 4 of Episode Echoes, you can’t complete Specimen ID: NES003 in Destiny 2. The quest is bugged and won’t be available until week 5, so you’ll have to wait until then for when I update this article and include a step-by-step guide for completing it as quickly as possible.
