Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora includes many different ammo types for your arsenal of Na’vi and RDA weapons. Thankfully, you can craft most ammo types in Avatar: FoP. But you will need the right materials.
To craft ammo for your weapons in Avatar: FoP, you first need to have them equipped. You can’t make more ammunition in the standard menu. Hold the Q key or the Left Bumper/L1 button on your controller to bring up your weapon wheel. Move to the weapon you want to craft ammo for and hold the F key on your keyboard, or the X or Square button on your controller to craft ammo. You can only craft as much ammo as you have materials, mind.
Where to get materials for ammo crafting
All ammunition types require crafting materials to make. The easiest weapons to craft ammo for are the bows and the Spear Thrower. Standard arrows and spears only require sticks, which can be harvested from most tall grass plants all around Pandora. Some RDA facilities will also have bundles of sticks lying around, allowing you to make arrows often, even when surrounded by concrete and metal.
Things get trickier with special ammo. Some weapons have ‘Special Ammo’ types, which you can see by highlighting them in the ‘Character’ menu and looking under damage info. The Longbow shown below has a ‘Grenade Arrow’ special ammo type, which means I can craft Grenade Arrows along with the standard arrows that don’t blow up.
To craft special ammo in Avatar: FoP, you’ll need more materials than the standard. The Grenade Arrow, for example, requires sticks, Spare Parts, and a plant material taken from a Sulphur Pod. Mash those together and you get a stick with a grenade attached. It’s science. To change ammo types, equip your weapon and press the C key on your keyboard or Right on your controller’s D-pad during gameplay.
You can find material for ammunition just about everywhere on Pandora. Exact locations can be found in the Hunter’s Guide, but here is a quick list:
- Sticks
- Commonly taken from ‘Archer’s Thicket’, a plant found in the world
- Spare Parts
- Available from ‘Spare Parts Containers’, which you can find around RDA bases, settlements, or just about anywhere where human tech is located
- Acrid Pod
- A toxic pod found on rocks near the water
- Sulphur Pod
- A pod containing flammable oil. Can be found on “great trees” in the environment
How to get more Spare Parts
As mentioned, Spare Parts are typically found anywhere humans dwell. RDA facilities, bases, campsites, crash sites, etc. are all prime areas to explore for Spare Parts. You’ll find them by looting small, yellow containers called ‘Spare Parts Containers’. They’re quite plentiful, even in the lush and exotic alien world of Pandora. You can always find at least one near RDA soldiers who are lurking about in the wilderness. But bases will have many more scattered throughout rooms and hallways.
Another way to earn Spare Parts quickly is to complete human side quests. Take up some jobs from your human buddies at the Resistance HQ and they’ll drop some Spare Parts for you as a reward.
Can you craft RDA ammo in Avatar: FoP?
As far as I can tell, you cannot craft RDA ammo in Avatar: FoP. Bullets and shotgun shells need to be found around RDA locations or taken off the bodies of soldiers. Special Ammo, however, is seemingly only found in green ‘Special ammunition containers’ found around RDA facilities. So far, I haven’t found anything like electrified shotgun shells on AMP remains. Thankfully, AMP suits tend to provide plenty of ammunition. And since RDA weapons work best against RDA troops, you’ll rarely be dry on rounds during battles. In fact, you might even find more ammunition than you can carry. For that, there is a solution.
How to craft and carry more ammo
Leveling up certain Skills will allow you to carry and craft more ammo for the same amount of materials. Skills like ‘Extra Ammo I’ in the ‘Memories of the Warrior’ skill tree doubles the amount of arrows, spears, and firearm rounds you can carry. You can double it further by unlocking the next skill, ‘Extra Ammo II’. The ‘Memories of the Maker’ skill tree includes the ‘Expert Ammunition Crafter’ skill, which lets you craft double the amount of base ammunition at once.
It’s smart to unlock at least the first Extra Ammo skill along with the crafting skill. You will eventually find yourself in some lengthy fights later in the game, and being able to craft and carry as much ammunition as possible will be a major boon.
