A zoo all to yourself
The Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy can take you to multiple biomes throughout the world, and you can store more magical beasts within them. You’ll regularly be able to upgrade the Vivarium as you proceed through the game and finish mainline quests.
With more space in the Vivarium, you’ll be able to collect each resource from the beasts in a quicker fashion. This is instead of swapping them out over and over again with a max species cap. Here’s when you’ll be able to expand or upgrade the Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to upgrade the Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy
The Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy will progressively receive upgrades as you proceed through the main story of the game. You’ll periodically get new biomes, including the beach, swamp, and mountain. Here are the exact moments you’ll unlock every Vivarium biome in the game, allowing four more species to be held around the Room of Requirement:
- The Forest is given to you as soon as you unlock the Vivarium. This new gameplay mechanic is presented to you during the “The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom” quest.
- The Coastal biome presents itself when you begin the “Plight of the Elf” questline. This quest unlocks after finishing the first trial and defeating the Pensieve Guardian.
- The Swamp is provided to you after capturing two thestrals and purchasing the Breeding Pen spellcraft from Tomes & Scrolls. You’ll need to do this during the “Foal of the Dead” quest.
- Lastly, The Mountain biome can be retrieved by finishing the quests “Niamh Fitzgerald’s Trial” and “Phoenix Rising” later on in the story.
Once you’ve unlocked all of the biomes, you’ll able to place all 12 beast species in the Vivarium. Having easy access to all of the dropped resources they provide like Diricawl Feathers and Toad Warts will make it faster to upgrade your gear with traits.
What Else Can You Do At The Vivarium?
Other than getting resources from the magical beasts you collect from the open world, there isn’t much else to do at the Vivarium. However, gaining access to different biomes does provide an easy way to gain ingredients. For example, rather than stepping outside of the Hogwarts grounds and heading to the shore, all you have to do to get Leech Juice is head over to the Beach biome. You can also get a bunch of Moonstones in the Forest Vivarium.
