They say the best defense is a good offense, but sometimes you really just want a shield. To make one in Palworld, you’ll need to farm Ancient Civilization Parts — which once went by Paldium Crystals.
The best approach is to gather Ancient Civilization Parts dropped by defeated Alpha Pals in Palworld. Normally, that covers not only dungeon bosses, but overworld bosses wandering around in the world. Some chests also contain the parts, but let’s stick to the tried-and-true method.
Farm for Ancient Civilization Parts by visiting dungeons in Palworld
The easiest way to farm for Ancient Civilization Parts early in Palworld is to replay the nearby dungeons. On the first island you spawn at, you can find a good dozen or so dungeons at around level 13. There are also overworld bosses, or Alphas, like the level 11 Chillet, that make for quick prey. However, the dungeons are the way to go.
My suggestion is to tame a swift Pal mount and rush through the dungeons seeking out the boss. A great Pal to do this with is the Direhowl, which naturally moves faster than other mounts. Bosses are random, and you could get lucky with something like this freakishly adorable level 10 Lamball boss:
Defeating it can be quick, and doing so will earn you items such as the rare-ranked Ancient Civilization Parts.
What to create with the parts
Ancient Civilization Parts are necessary in the creation of not only rechargeable shields but also for items found under the Ancient Technology section in the game’s tech tree.
Here are the shields you can make with Ancient Civilization Parts:
- Mega Shield (level 16)
- Giga Shield (level 28)
- Hyper Shield (level 43)
And here’s what you can make from the Ancient Technology section:
- Egg Incubator (level 7)
- Grappling Gun (level 12)
- Pal Essence Condenser (level 14)
- Mega Grappling Gun (level 17)
- Hip Lantern (level 22)
- Single-shot Sphere Launcher (level 29)
- Giga Grappling Gun (level 32)
- Scatter Sphere Launcher (level 38)
- Lily’s Spear (level 40)
- Decal Gun Set (level 42)
- Hyper Grappling Gun (level 47)
- Homing Sphere Launcher (level 50)
Are Paldium Crystals and Ancient Civilization Parts the same in Palworld?
Following the 0.1.1.0 patch on Xbox and PC Game Pass, the name of Paldium Crystals changed to Ancient Civilization Parts in Palworld. The material also went from Uncommon to Rare, though the image seems to be the same.
If you’re confused, welcome to the club. This is one of the changes you should expect to see more of as the Steam and Xbox/PC Game Pass versions become closer in parity.
