With the Early Access launch of Dark and Darker, it appears some players are experiencing freezing and constant rubber banding. This can be extremely frustrating, especially when this never seemed to be an issue in the earlier alpha tests. Fortunately, we have a few methods on how to fix freezing and rubber banding in Dark and Darker.
How to fix Dark and Darker freezing and rubber banding
For most players, it appears that freezing and stuttering every few seconds as well as rubber banding is mostly a networking issue. If it’s networking issues on your end, there are a few things you can do to try and fix it:
- Make sure you have a stable connection. If you’re playing on WiFi, consider a wired connection if possible.
- Create an exception on your Firewall and Antivirus. blacksmith.exe is the Blacksmith Launcher, and dungeoncrawler.exe is the executable for Dark and Darker. Make sure neither one is being blocked.
Keep in mind that in most cases, networking issues are probably due to server congestion and can only be fixed by Ironmace. If you try these fixes to no avail, you may have to just wait for the servers to settle.
Other possible fixes if it’s not a networking issue
Although the freezing and stuttering typically appear when you are encountering some sort of network or connection issue, it is possible that’s not the culprit. If that’s the case, these fixes might work in terms of increasing your overall performance with Dark and Darker.
- Enable DirectX 11 mode. To enable DirectX11, open the Blacksmith Launcher and click the icon in the top left. Select options, then navigate to Game and check the Launch Options. Put this in the box: -dx11
- Force Dark and Darker to use all cores. Once again you will need to open the Blacksmith Launcher and click the icon in the top left. Select options, then navigate to Game and check the Launch Options. Put this in the box: -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
- Lower Anti-Aliasing and Super Resolution video options. While in Dark and Darker, navigate to the Video Settings and change TSR to another setting such as Off, FXAA, or DLSS.
All of these fixes will probably require you to restart Dark and Darker to make sure the changes load properly. Regardless, if it’s possible to fix Dark and Darker freezing and rubber banding ton of these fixes should do the trick. If none of these work, it’s likely just some networking problems out of your control and you will need to wait for Ironmace to fix it.
