As Final Fantasy XIV prepares for its fifth expansion pack, Dawntrail, on June 26, 2024, servers were brought offline to prepare for the update. Even though Early Access for the expansion doesn’t go live until June 28, the client-side update for Dawntrail is already available. However, some players are experiencing a Launcher Error when trying to update, resulting in ‘Unable to Download Patch Files’.
While Dawntrail may be new, the Unable to Download Patch Files error isn’t. Below, we’ve got a few suggestions to troubleshoot, along with tips on how to fix FFXIV Error 2002 if that’s your next obstacle.
How to fix Unable to Download Patch Files Launcher Error in FFXIV
You will need to wait until the servers are more stable to fix the Unable to Download Patch Files Launcher Error occurring in FFXIV. Even though the download is available now, the Final Fantasy XIV servers are still a bit shaky with the ongoing maintenance in preparation for Dawntrail. In most cases, this error just means the servers aren’t stable enough to create a proper connection for you to download the patch files. Waiting until the servers are more stable, ideally as we get closer to the June 28 Early Access release, will yield better results when trying to update.
However, it is possible that something on your end is causing you to be unable to download the Dawntrail patch files, in which case, there are a few things you can do to fix it:
- Restart the Final Fantasy XIV Launcher. Some of the core Launcher files for FFXIV are also updated with each expansion release. If you haven’t yet restarted the Launcher, make sure you do so to ensure you’re accessing the latest patch files download.
- Disable your Antivirus. Antivirus Software has caused issues with the Final Fantasy XIV Launcher for a long time. Disabling your Antivirus Software may allow you to download the patch files, after which you can reenable your Antivirus.
- Check your Internet Connection. A stable connection is required to access the Final Fantasy XIV patch servers and update your patch files. Make sure you have a stable connection and aren’t experiencing any sort of internet outage. If on WiFi, consider switching to a more stable wired connection.
