In Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the Aranahe clan helps you bond with your Ikran mount. But the Upper Plains is where the Direhorse roam. If you’re looking for the best ground-based transport in Avatar: FoP, read on to find out how to get a Direhorse mount.
You will get your first Direhorse mount once you enter the Upper Plains for the first time. But you won’t get to the plains until you’ve made some significant progress in the story. The first section of the game locks you into the Kinglor Forest area, the southern section of the map. But once you’ve completed enough of the game, you’ll find yourself in the rolling green hills of the Upper Plains.
Which chapter do you get a Direhorse mount in Avatar: FoP?
Once you’ve convinced the Aranahe clan to join your cause, you’re told about the clan to the north. Due to the high winds, you can’t reach the Upper Plains with your Ikran. Make your way through the next chapter, ‘The Wandering Clan’, where you’ll get your Direhorse mount in Avatar: FoP.
During the chapter, you must enter a cave in the rocky hills separating the Upper Plains and Kinglor Forest. After you exit, walk toward the nearby campsite just ahead of you.
Raise the kite lying on the ground to attract the two leaders of the Zeswa clan: Minang and her sister Nesim. Once you exchange some short pleasantries, they teach you how to tame and ride a Direhorse.
It’s the same method you used before with your Ikran. Hold the button or key the game tells you to use to soothe the beast while slowly walking forward. Thankfully, you can tame any Direhorse on your first try; there is no chasing these bad boys down. After you soothe the animal, you can hop on its back and take it for a ride.
Can you keep a Direhorse for the rest of the game?
Sadly, you can’t keep a Direhorse in Avatar: FoP. You cannot tame or name a Direhorse like you were able to with your Ikran. Naturally, this means you also can’t call for one while out in the Upper Plains. If you’re without a Direhorse, you’ll need to find a fresh one out in the wilds.
Tips on using a Direhorse:
- You can hold sprint to move faster.
- Running through Mist Bloom plants increases the speed of the Direhorse, just like with the Na’vi.
- You can use weapons while mounted, making them great for drive-by battles with the RDA or when hunting.
Mounting a Direhorse it’s a cool option that Avatar fans are sure to love, but the effort isn’t worth it when you have a perfectly good giant alien bat to ride.
