Pet Turtle in Stardew Valley

If you’re an animal lover, then one of the updates to Stardew Valley in 1.6 will make you very happy indeed. You can now have more than one pet on your farm and it’s actually not too difficult to do. Here’s how to get a second (or further) Pet in Stardew Valley.

You get your first pet very early into the game, once you earn 1000 Gold. Marnie shows up at the Farm brandishing an animal (either a cat or a dog, depending on which you chose while making your character) for you to adopt. Until now, this would be your only pet for a whole playthrough, but now you can have more.

You must reach the maximum friendship level with your first pet before you can purchase any further pets. To do this, you’ll need to give them water in their food bowl and pet them regularly. You’ll know when you’ve reached maximum friendship because you’ll see a pop-up that says “(Animal name) loves you”. You can check your friendship level with your pet through the animals tab in the pause menu.

In order to get an additional pet, you’ll need to visit Marnie at her home, which is directly south of the farm map. Here, you’ll be able to adopt a cat, a dog, or a turtle. After spending your gold, Marnie will tell you that your new pet will be on your farm shortly.

Once you’ve secured ownership of your second pet, you’ll need an additional food bowl on your farm to help them feel at home.

To get an additional food bowl you’ll need 25 Hardwood, then head to Robin’s house and after speaking to her, select “Construct Farm Buildings”. Find the food bowl and then select your style before pressing “build”.

Place the bowl down on your farm and after a brief ‘construction period’, your new bowl will be set up and ready to go for your new pet!
