At long last there’s a weapon that helps bring together all the bleed builds and magic builds that I’ve tried in Elden Ring. The Star-Lined Sword is a new katana in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and you can pick it up almost as soon as you arrive in the Land of Shadow.
Intelligence builds that still want to be swinging a weapon most of the time are going to love this one. Here’s how you can find the Star-Lined Sword in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Star-Lined Sword location
The Star-Lined Sword is dropped by a field boss called Demi-Human Queen Marigga. To get to her, start at the Cerulean Coast West Site of Grace, and from there head around the rubble and north into a narrow canyon passage. Continue up this passage until you reach a fork, and then turn left. After just a bit more walking, you should come up a rise and see a new stretch of coastline that’s absolutely teeming with Demi-Humans.
Several of the Demi-Humans are larger than your garden variety, but Queen Marigga should still be easy to spot because she looms over all of them. Before you head into battle against her, you should save yourself a headache by picking off as many individual Demi-Humans as possible. Queen Marigga isn’t too hard to beat on her own, especially if you’ve picked up some Scadutree Fragments. She mostly uses melee attacks that you’ll need to dodge, and occasionally she’ll throw some Glintstone Pebbles at you. Riding Torrent trivializes the fight since you can circle around her almost faster than she can line up an attack against you.
Star-Lined Sword stats and scaling
The Star-Lined Sword requires 10 Strength, 23 Dexterity, and 21 Intelligence to wield. It has E, C, and D scaling with those stats, respectively, so it’s primarily going to be useful for Tarnished with Dex/Int builds. The imbued skill, Onze’s Line of Stars, allows for up to three magically-imbued slashes. Here are the sword’s full stats.
- Type: Katana (Slash/Pierce)
- Weapon Skill: Onze’s Line of Stars
- FP Cost: 10
- Weight: 5.0
- Attack Power: Physical 82 / Magic 82 / Critical 100
- Guarded Damage Negation: 34.0 Physical, 48.0 Magic, 24 Fire/Lightning/Holy, Guard Boost 29
- Passive Effect: Causes blood loss buildup (45)
How to use the Star-Lined Sword
The Star-Lined Sword essentially controls like a regular katana. You can use it single-handedly to keep a hand free for casting magic, or go all in on the damage by holding it in both hands. You’re going to have a fairly good reach while using the weapon, and you’ll want to prioritize finding openings for multiple attacks because that will help you get the most out of the weapon’s bleed effect.
Onze’s Line of Stars should help with that. It’s attacks are extremely fast, and contrary to what the name would lead you to believe, it doesn’t attack in a straight line at all. Using the skill whips your magical weapon all around, and while it’s not quite an AoE effect, it should help you clear out enemies any time you’re surrounded. Continue leveling your Dexterity and Intelligence, and remember to upgrade the sword with Somber Smithing Stones, and you should be good to go.
