Get fired up
You can collect a lot of different stuff in Stardew Valley, and one of the most fun to find, in my opinion, is Fire Quartz. It’s a spikey, fiery red mineral, and while it doesn’t have a ton of practical uses in the game, it’s still one you’re going to need to find if you want to complete the main storyline and some side quests, or completely fill out the mineral collection at the museum. Thankfully there are a few different ways to acquire them in the game, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting your little pixelated hands on one.
Check out the mines
One of the most surefire methods of getting a Fire Quartz is progressing through the mine until you reach level 80. The Mines in town cap out at level 120, but as long as you’re on a level 80 or higher (or should I say lower?) you should be able to find Fire Quartz easily enough. Unlike gems like Emerald or Amethyst, you won’t need to mine rocks for Fire Quartz — instead you’ll simply find them sitting on the ground, so all you’ll need to do is pick them up.
Once you unlock Skull Cavern in the desert, you’ll also be able to find Fire Quartz there and pick them up like in the regular Mines. I personally prefer to steer clear of that death trap, as there are easier ways to get the items I need, but if you’re headed there anyway, just know you’ll be able to get your Fire Quartz there, too.
You might get lucky
The other methods of getting a Fire Quartz require a little bit of luck, but since you’re likely to be doing these anyway, you might happen upon one without even trying. First there are the Magma Geodes and the Omni Geodes, the former of which are found between levels 81 and 119 of the Mines, and the latter of which can be found anywhere in the Mines by breaking rocks. You can take any Geodes you find to Harvey the blacksmith, and he’ll break them open for only 25g. Fire Quartz isn’t one of the more rare or valuable resources in the game, so there’s a good chance you can score one from a Geode.
The final methods are going to include heading to a body of water, because you can also acquire Fire Quartz through fishing or panning. The mineral can appear in the treasure chests you sometimes encounter while fishing — make sure to equip the Treasure Hunter tackle on your fishing rod to increase the chance of the chests spawning if you’re going this route.
Last but not least, you can also get a Fire Quartz by panning in the river. This option will only be accessible to you after you remove the glittering boulder from the river next to the entrance to the Mines. Removing the boulder will require you to either complete the Fish Tank Bundles in the Community Center, or to purchase the “Panning” option from the Joja Community Development Form. Once panning is available to you, you’ll be able to sift through the river using your copper pan anywhere you see shimmers in the water. Doing so can award you with a Fire Quartz if you’re lucky.
