Modern Warfare 3 Weapon Challenges include a wide range of objectives, including some that may push you into unfamiliar territory. More specifically, the Holger 556 Assault Rifle Forged camo requires kills with a non-drill charge underbarrel. But what does that mean exactly? Here’s what you need to know to complete the challenge.
What is a non drill charge underbarrel kill in MW3?
The attachments needed for the Forged Weapon Challenge are the SPW 40MM HE (grenade launcher) or the Corvus Masterkey (shotgun). You can choose either add-on in Modern Warfare 3’s Gunsmith within the Underbarrel section. Previously, the challenge only mandated an Underbarrel attachment without explosives, but that has since changed with new updates.
To perform the non-drill charge underbarrel kill in MW3, change the weapon’s Fire Mode in-game for the grenade launcher or shotgun. Fire Modes alter the way bullets are shot and can even produce an entirely different gun. At least, that’s the case with this tactic, as it changes this Assault Rifle into more of a shotgun or grenade launcher.
Console players can hit the left directional button to alter the Fire Mode, while PC users can hit ‘B.’ For example, I placed the SPW 40MM HE on the Holger 556 and changed the Fire Mode to produce the 40x46MM SR Grenade.
Those who don’t modify the Fire Mode will not progress in the Forged Camo Challenge, only unleashing regular bullets. After equipping the attachment, get 25 Operator kills with the non-drill charge underbarrel. The challenge also requires completing the previous tiers, such as the Base and Gilded Camo Challenges.
