Legendary weapons can be powerful boons in role-playing games. And if you’re still in the first half of Baldur’s Gate 3 you can get a strong one in the Blood of Lathander, a powerful mace hidden away in the Mountain Pass region.
While the actual mace resides in a secret chamber in the Githyanki Creche, there is a prerequisite. If you haven’t already done the Rosymorn Monastery puzzle and acquired the Dawnmaster’s Crest, you’ll need to do that before entering the Githyanki Creche. It might be possible afterwards—we haven’t tested it—but your life will be a lot easier if you do things in order.
With the Crest in your stash, proceed through the Creche story quest content, all the way to the encounter with the Githyanki Inquisitor. After the cutscenes, events, and battles, don’t leave that room just yet. Head west to the Inquisitor’s Chamber (X:1330, Y:-663) and look at the two statues inside.
How to access the Secret Chamber
As the plaques indicate, you’ll want to rotate the statues to face towards the rising and setting sun. Just hum “Californication” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers (The sun may rise in the east/at least it’s settled in a final location) and turn them the corresponding directions. You’ll need to pass an Athletics check to turn one, or get creative with spells.
A passage will open behind the vases, and you can head through to the Secret Chamber. You’re one step closer to where Baldur’s Gate 3 is hiding the Blood of Lathander.
Secret Chamber puzzle solution in Baldur’s Gate 3
Inside, you’ll be faced with a simple door puzzle. Each door has an Energy Source, and you don’t like doors, so take the Sources out. The first is an easy tutorial one, but Door #2 and #3 hide their Energy Sources. There are also traps on the ground that will send your party members flying into the nearby chasm if activated.
Ungroup your party members and send one archer around to knock out the sources. One is hiding on the lefthand side around a cliff face, while the other sits on the right, alongside the chasm. For extra safety, you can disarm the shockwave traps. It’s easier to shoot out power sources when you’re not afraid of getting yeeted (yoten?) into the abyss.
Pass through, and you’ll find the special chamber with ornate gold spires and a mechanism at the center. Insert that Dawnmaster’s Crest, and you’ll get a cutscene rewarding you with the Blood of Lathander.
The Blood of Lathander is a fantastic weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3, giving your character a blinding light source, a save from instant death once per Long Rest, a high enchantment, and access to the Level 6 Evocation spell Sunbeam. Put it in Shadowheart’s, or really any Cleric’s, hands and don’t look back. It might have taken two different puzzle solutions, but the result is very much worth it.
