While playing Stardew Valley, one of the things that requires attention is your tools, and upgrading them to be better or do more. Unfortunately, the Scythe can’t be upgraded at the Blacksmith, but there is an upgrade available if you know where to look and you’ve got the guts to try for it.
While not as good as the Iridium Scythe, which can be gained through completing your Farming Mastery, the Golden Scythe does provide some improvements when compared to the basic Scythe:
- Larger radius
- Change to get hay from a swipe is increased from 50% to 75%
- Inflicts 13 damage, compared to the 1-3 damage inflicted by the regular Scythe
How to get the Golden Scythe in Stardew Valley
The Golden Scythe is located at the end of the Quarry Mine, so you’ll need to have repaired the Bridge via one of the following methods:
- Complete the Crafts Room bundles in the Community Center
- Pay 25,000 Gold via the Joja Community Development Form
This will grant you access to the Quarry, and through the Quarry you can get to the Quarry Mine on the left hand side.
Before you descend into this mine, take heed. The enemies in here are far more dangerous than those within the regular Mines. Not only do they move faster, but they also hit harder and take more to kill. Take the highest damage weapon you have and a lot of food, because you’re going to have to fight your way through a lot of Haunted Skulls before you can get the Golden Scythe.
This Mine is only one level, so don’t worry about looking for a way down. The Golden Scythe itself is located at the very back of this Mine, so just keep working your way through the area until you find the Reaper Statue holding the Scythe. Interacting with the statue will provide you with the Scythe.
Don’t make the same mistake that I and many others made the first time we visited this Mine: there’s no need to make your way back to the ladder to get out. Simply interact with the Reaper again and you’ll be teleported back to safety with Golden Scythe in hand.
