Destiny 2‘s Tesselation Exotic fusion rifle has been prominently featured as part of Bungie’s The Final Shape hype campaign, but how does one actually earn the weapon in-game? Specifically, this weapon is not locked behind an Exotic quest or anything like that, and players looking to snag it will, instead, need to open their wallets.
While the community is still torn on The Final Shape and what the DLC means for the game at large, Bungie’s always been quite good at generating hype. One of the ways in which the studio has accomplished this, historically, has been through special pre-order offers, and this isn’t changing for the 2024 expansion pack.

How to get Tessellation in Destiny 2?
The bad news, then, is that the only way to get the Tessellation Exotic fusion rifle in Destiny 2 is to pre-order the Final Shape DLC. Doing so immediately unlocks the weapon for use, which means this snazzy-looking gun has officially joined the ranks of No Time to Explain and Osteo Striga, which were leveraged as upsell goodies for the Beyond Light and Witch Queen DLCs, respectively. It’s a pricey offering, to be sure, but possibly worth it for those who know they’ll be playing the DLC no matter what.
Much like No Time to Explain and Osteo Striga, the Tessellation will eventually make its way into Destiny 2 as a regular, earnable Exotic as well. Historically, Bungie has kept these upsell Exotics exclusive for a season or two. In other words, those who categorically refuse to pre-order The Final Shape won’t be missing out all that much – provided that they can be patient for a few months.
Those who end up playing The Final Shape will, naturally, gain access to what seems like an impressive array of all-new goodies on top of the new Exotic fusion rifle. The new Light Supers coming to Destiny 2, for example, are a strong argument for purchasing the DLC, but those won’t be pre-order exclusives in the first place.
