How to get the true ending in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s true dogma.

Did you find that the ending you received in Dragon’s Dogma 2 was a little disappointing? Maybe it just felt wrong somehow, and you can’t put your finger on why. It might be because you didn’t get the “true” ending. That’s okay, Capcom’s ARPG isn’t exactly known for being the most straightforward RPG of the century, but as per usual, we can help.

Yes, there’s a True Ending in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 builds to an inevitable battle with the dragon that stole your heart. I mean literally, but maybe you did find yourself falling for those smoldering eyes, as well. I wouldn’t blame you. Regardless, there’s more than one way to wrap up this story, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has multiple endings.

During the battle (technically before), you’ll find yourself riding on the back of the dragon. If you simply remain here for a while, the game will transition to the final showdown against the heart-thief. If you defeat the dragon, the credits will roll, and you’ll be taken to the standard ending. You can either reload a saved game to try for a better ending or speak to the pathfinder at the palace to get sent back.

Note, however, that if you choose the option to “start from the beginning with your current level and equipment,” your save will be overwritten, and you won’t be able to simply go back and retry. Apparently, Capcom does have plans to add a new game option to Dragon’s Dogma 2 in an update when you’ve already recorded save data, but that’s not in the game for now.

To actually get the true ending in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to get the Empowered Godsbane Blade. If you have this weapon, while riding on the dragon, you need to crawl around to its heart and use the weapon. Now, instead of the credits rolling, the adventure will continue, this time with you being set on the path to the true ending.
