Dondoko Island in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is quite possibly one of the most absurdly robust distractions in the series yet. Channeling Animal Crossing, the mode gives you full control of an island resort. But it’s a mess. First, let’s at least reach a 1-star rating on Dondoko Island.
Not long after waking up on Dondoko Island, its caretaker asks Ichiban Kasuga if he can help clean up the place. The natural people pleaser agrees, of course, but it won’t be easy. Dondoko Island is strewn with trash, all of which must be picked up. Doing so allows you to increase the island’s rank, from a 1-star resort to 5 stars. Thankfully, the first star won’t stress you out much.
Steps to get a 1-star rating on Dondoko Island in Infinite Wealth
To reach a 1-star rating, you’ll need to complete four major tasks. The island’s caretaker Matayoshi gives Ichiban goals to reach to leave the ‘Unrated’ rank behind:
- Satisfaction at 1,000
- Popularity at 700
- Clear out the Entrance
- Clear out the Great Tree
First things first, you need to clear out at least one of the areas that are covered in bags of trash. Use your bat to blast through bags, gathering crafting materials as you go.
On day two, Matayoshi introduces you to Kenzo, who can permanently clear an area of contamination, letting you place buildings and other structures. Garbage respawns each day, and destroying the trash bags raises the area’s rank, which goes from F to S. As the rank increases, the amount of Dondoko bucks needed to clear the area permanently decreases. Yes, Dondoko bucks, not cash, which is the currency of the island and what you earn by completing activities.
Focus on clearing one area
I suggest clearing the Entrance area first, as it is the smallest and easiest to manage. Keep raising the rank, and soon enough you can pay Kenzo to decontaminate it for good.
As the early days go by, you’re introduced to the DIY station which helps you craft items, buildings, and other touristy crap. Each item is tied to a Popularity and Satisfaction rating, which you can see under the item’s name in the DIY station. Placing the item will raise the overall Popularity and Satisfaction by the amount shown.
Consider crafting buildings instead of so much outdoor furniture, as the former will increase Popularity and Satisfaction far more. We’re talking a difference of 1,000 points compared to 10. Naturally, you’ll need more materials for buildings, so be sure to scour the whole island for garbage bags and complete all your dailies to get money and leveling points.
As your rank increases, you’ll gain access to more DIY blueprints. If you need to place something but have more money than materials, seek out Matayoshi, who sells items for cash. There is also a rotating supply of goods you can purchase in Matayoshi’s building.
Don’t stop building, and soon you’ll get ranked
Use the DIY station and build an outdoor decoration to place in the cleared areas every day. The more you place with each opportunity, the more the rank will raise. Before you know it, you should have both the aforementioned requirements ticked off. Once that’s done, focus on clearing the Great Tree, which is a tougher task.
Soon you’ll be given the notice that you can speak with Matayoshi and get the island rating up. Dondoko Island will become a 1-star resort, but this is just the start — you can take it all the way to 5 stars in Infinite Wealth.
It’s a long road ahead
What comes next? Well, since Dondoko Island is now a 1-star resort, you can open ‘er up for guests! And you know there’s nothing vacationers desire more than to wake up from their tent to the fresh smell of hot garbage. Yeah… you have a lot more to do to raise that rank. You will only be able to craft one lodging for guests at first, but you’ll have your choice of the Entrance or the Great Tree. Make sure you place paths and give your new guests enough space and things to enjoy as you work toward your second star.
